1. Nature of the Service

The Science and Freedom for Everyone Foundation ("the Foundation") is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation. The Foundation has applied for recognition of tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; recognition is currently pending with the Internal Revenue Service. The content provided on this website, including all research papers, summaries, and white papers, is for educational and informational purposes only.

2. Research vs. Advice

  • Not Medical Advice: The Institute conducts scientific research and analysis. Nothing on this site should be construed as medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare provider regarding a medical condition.
  • Not Legal Advice: Our analysis of state legislation (including "Autonomous" vs. "Prescriptive" designations) is based on our internal scientific criteria and policy research. It does not constitute legal advice or a legal opinion. Laws are subject to change and interpretation; users should consult with their own legal counsel regarding compliance with state statutes.

3. Intellectual Property

The Foundation owns its work products and releases them to the public, free of charge, under open licenses. It applies the license appropriate to each type of material:

  • Model policy documents are dedicated to the public domain under Creative Commons CC0 1.0.
  • Research reports, white papers, and educational materials are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Users may copy, redistribute, and adapt these materials for any purpose, provided the Science and Freedom for Everyone Foundation is credited as the source and the user does not imply that the Foundation endorses the user or the user's modifications.
  • Software and code tools are licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3.0 (GPL-3.0).

The Foundation's names, including "SAFE" and "SAFE Research Institute," its logos, and other source-identifying marks are not covered by these open licenses and remain the reserved property of the Foundation. They may not be used in any way that suggests endorsement, misattributes altered content to the Foundation, or is likely to cause confusion, without the Foundation's written permission.

4. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Science and Freedom for Everyone Foundation, its Board of Directors, and its Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, the information on this site.
